Medicare Part D

Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage

Part D helps cover prescription drug costs, either through a stand-alone plan or certain Medicare Advantage plans. The right plan depends entirely on the specific medications you take and where you fill them.

Why your drug list drives the decision

Every Part D plan publishes a formulary, the list of drugs it covers and the tier each drug sits on. Two plans with similar premiums can produce very different annual costs once your actual prescriptions are priced out.

We run your medication list against the plans available in your ZIP code and compare total estimated annual cost, not just the monthly premium.

  • Formulary tier placement for each of your medications
  • Preferred versus standard pharmacy pricing near you
  • Prior authorization or step therapy requirements
  • Annual deductible and the plan's out-of-pocket structure

The late enrollment penalty

If you go 63 days or more without creditable prescription drug coverage after becoming eligible, Medicare may add a permanent late enrollment penalty to your Part D premium. Enrolling on time, even in a low-cost plan you barely use, avoids that.

Review it every year

Formularies and pharmacy networks change each January, and so do the medications you take. A plan that was the best value last year may not be this year, which is why we review coverage with clients during the Annual Enrollment Period from October 15 through December 7.
